FunHealth #058 --, Grocery List galore.
March 09, 2008
Hello,

The Grocery List Issue (Mar,09 2008 )

1. Why we love lists.

2. Grocery lists.

3. An opportunity to get published.

4. Current Health News

===========================================================

I call myself a queen of lists. I enjoy drawing lists. I sometimes find forgotten lists of goals, grocery lists, and my favorite, to do lists in my handbags. I even have a dinner roaster on my fridge door. There are actually a lot of benefits from drawing lists.

The most bizarre thing is that I never follow my shopping list. I usually end up with a trolley full of what is not on my list. I always have a way of defending myself for this off course. “My list was not covering all my needs”. I now appreciate the fact that without lists, I am hopeless. I forget the most important things I need.

For your reference purposes, I am sharing my grocery list. I know I must have left out the most important of your food items. I just tried my best with the lists I use. My main policy is shopping for fresh fruit and vegetables weekly and the rest monthly. For ease of reference, I have divided all foods according to the main groups. Happy food shopping.

4. Health News Highlights this Week:

4.1 Men Doing More Housework Get More Sex

While American men still don't do their fair share of household chores, they are getting better. One expert suggested that men who do help out around the house get more sex.

"If a guy does housework, it looks to the woman like he really cares about her -- he's not treating her like a servant," said Coleman. "And if a woman feels stressed out because the house is a mess and the guy's sitting on the couch while she's vacuuming, that's not going to put her in the mood." (SOURCE: Council on Contemporary Families).

Our Take on this: It all makes sense. As if we didn’t know already.

4.2 First World Glaucoma Day Thursday was the first World Glaucoma Day and experts are urging all people over age 40 and those with other risk factors for the disease to take steps to recognize and understand the potentially devastating consequences of the disease.

4.3 Breast Cancer Risk after Combo HRT Stopped

There is an increased risk of breast cancer after a woman stops taking combination hormone replacement therapy, according to a new study. This follows a trial that was done in 2002, when it was discovered that postmenopausal women taking combination hormone therapy (estrogen plus progestin) had a higher risk of cardiovascular disease, stroke, blood clots and breast cancer. (SOURCE: Journal of the American Medical Association)

Our Take on this: Whilst experts disagree on this, patients need to be extra cautious and be active in decision making.

4.4 Having Breakfast Good for your Weight

Teens and children, who want to keep the weight off, should have a healthy breakfast every morning. Yet another study is confirming that adolescents who skip breakfast have a higher risk of being overweight.

"There's a pretty significant inverse association between how frequently kids report eating breakfast and how much weight they gain over time, and we took into account other dietary factors and physical activity," said Mark Pereira, co-author of the study, published in the March issue of Pediatrics. (SOURCES: US Department of Health)

Our Take on this: Everyone needs to have a healthy breakfast.
