God in Us
Nevertheless I tell you the truth; it is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.
John 16:7 (Today’s King James Version)
I have always wondered; why Christians are not experiencing the miracles as the apostles in the New Testament did. Certainly, I’m not saying there are no miracles today, we see miracles in crusades and other Christian gatherings. I do not think however, that this is what God intended for Christians. According to scripture these miracles should happen to every Christian.
In the scripture above, Jesus tells his disciples that it is better for them if he goes away because if He does not go away the Holy Spirit will not come to them. I’m sure they wondered if there is anything better than having Christ, the Son of the Living God with them every day. Whenever their family members were sick the LORD would just heal them, when they did not have money to pay tax the LORD would send them to collect it from the mouth of a fish, when the people are hungry He would multiply food and feed the crowds. What could be better than that?
Many Christians today would rather choose to have Christ here than him leaving, because their lives are not what is meant to be. God intends a Christian to have a relationship with The Holy Spirit. That is the reason the Bible says it is better if Jesus goes away.
Jesus also said ‘…there are so many things that I want to tell you, but you can’t bear them now but when the Holy Spirit comes, he will lead you in to all truths…’ (John 16: 12). There are things that Jesus wanted to tell the disciples, but couldn’t, we will get that through the Holy Spirit.
This week’s message is meant to encourage us to develop our relationship with the Holy Spirit. He is God in us. Let us not ignore him, let us not grieve him. He wants to be our friend. If you are born again and have not yet received Him (the Holy Spirit), ask Him and He will come.
