Africa Day: Maputo, Mozambique

May 23, 2009: Africa Day

"I have felt my strongest artistic emotions when suddenly confronted with the sublime beauty of sculptures executed by the anonymous artists of Africa. These works of a religious, passionate, and rigorously logical art are the most powerful and most beautiful things the human imagination has ever produced."
PABLO PICASSO
Well it is Africa Day today. And guess what??? Yep, you guessed right, my African outfit is still floating in the ocean with the rest of my stuff, being shipped here. Anyway, it turns out I cant attend Africa Day as the princess is in a spoilt mood. She is a bit restless and when she says "jump" to mommy, she only asks, "how high". That’s my princess. Hubby is on his own on this one, I pass.

I tried to contribute my cooking services. Which seemed not necessary as there were enough hands already. Most families have “helpers” or domestic workers also known as housekeepers. So they asked them to put overtime to help with these preparations. It really helps having these helpers and both parties benefit. Most domestic workers are bread-winners and earn income that covers a lot their household expenses and school fees for their kids. I am still to search for a domestic worker too. I initially thought I don’t need one, but I don’t want to find myself home bound and not able to attend non-child-friendly events once in a while.

Africa day seem to have gone well, according to hubby. They had lots of African food and South African wine. There was a fashion show and most leaders were there to be shown all these cultural outfits. So I was home with my daughter for the day and part of the evening. The function took a bit long but I enjoy my space whenever I get it. It gives me time to connect with myself.

Peace,
