Be Rooted in the Word of God

Be Rooted in the Word of God: Access the living waters which is the Word of God.

"Blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence. They are like trees planted along the riverbank, and with roots that reach deep into the water. Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought. Their leaves stay green, and they never stop producing fruit. "
Jeremiah 17: 7-8 (NLT)

There is an interesting revelation in this scripture. It says, “They are like trees planted along the riverbank, and with roots that reach deep into the water. In other words, it not only being planted by the riverbank that makes these trees to survive the droughts and all circumstances. It is because their roots reach deep into the water. This tells me that it is not necessarily all the trees that are planted by the riverbank that are not bothered by the heat or drought, but those with roots that reach deep into the water. From this one can realize that there are some of the trees by the riverbank and will wither, fail to produce fruit or even die during times of drought if their roots are not spreading enough across the river or deep enough to reach the water. Their condition is subject to their ability to reach into the water.

This tells me that all Christians should ask themselves this. Do my roots reach deep into the water? In other words, do I have enough word of God in me? Your answer to this question will determine your ability to withstand trials. To withstand trials means that you are still able to produce the fruits of the spirit irrespective of the circumstances around you. In Galatians 5: 22, the scripture says that the fruits of the spirit are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Just like the trees that are able remain green and bear fruit during long drought, we should be able to produce these fruits in all circumstances.

Let us also note that the trees that have deep roots experience the same circumstances with the other trees. They experience similar external factors with trees that are not planted by the rivers as well as those planted by the rivers. The difference is what happens inside. When there is heat or long drought, it affects all the trees externally. This is similar in our lives. We experience almost similar external circumstances. It is actually worse for Christians. But how we respond to it is determined by what we have inside. The extent of God in you will determine if you will be able to bear fruits in all circumstances. Christians, let us get our roots deep into the water by accessing the living waters which is the Word of God.
