Have Faith in God

Have faith in God irrespective of your circumstances.

"Elijah said to her, don’t be afraid. Go home and do as you have said. But first make a small cake of bread for me from what you have and bring it to me, and then make something for yourself and your son. For this is what the Lord, the God of Israel says: The jar of flour will not be used up and the jug of oil will not run dry until the day the Lord gives rain on the land."
1 Kings 17: 13-14

Once upon a time Elijah was commanded by God to Zarephath of Sidon and stay there. God indicated to him that he would find a widow whom God had commanded to feed him. Elijah went there and found the widow as God has told him. However, the woman raised concerns that she did not have enough food. In actual fact she indicated that she was left with just one meal for herself and her son. She was expecting to die afterwards as they had no other sources of supply. But Elijah gave her a prophetic word. He told her that she must first prepare food for him. He told her a prophetic message that, “The jar of flour will not be used up and the jug of oil will not run dry until the day the Lord gives rain on the land.” She did as he told her and the word of God was fulfilled. Her supply never stopped.

This tells us that if God says something will happen, that is what we must believe. The fact that Elijah requested the woman bring him food first was not based on greed. It was based on the prophetic message that God had put in Elijah’s heart. The prophetic message was that the oil and the flour will not be used up if the woman gave the first portion of it to Elijah. This scripture answers questions about what we see in the Christian movement today, where people are told to raise a certain amount of money and expect to receive a miracle. If it is a prophetic word, I believe the miracle will come. Because God says that if the prophet speaks what he (God) has told him, then the word will come to pass. In the case of the widow in Elijah’s case, he told her that this is what the Lord says. It was not something that just came into Elijah’s mind. It was said under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.

This implies that if you receive a prophetic word or message, you must hold on to it because it will come to pass. God had sworn that his will always stand against anything. Even if it seems as if the prophesy is not coming to pass, just believe. It may not happen quickly as it did in the case of the widow, but if God says it will happen, it will happen. Sometimes God can promise something that seems to be not happening. Just imagine what Elijah could have when the woman told him that she was left with just one last meal for herself and her son before they both die. This was directly opposite to what God told Elijah. God had told him that he had a commanded a widow to feed him. If he got discouraged at the widow’s words, he could not have seen the miracle. So let us stand firm like Elijah so that God will perform his miracles in our lives.
