Depression
| Depression is a term that is so abused and carelessly used. I hear myself saying, I’m so depressed very often. This is a serious mental illness which, than God is treatable. Most people don’t get help early enough from being depressed and end up being worse off.
The difference between a temporary stress attack and depression is that stress is just a temporary attack which lasts a few hours or days. |

Being depressed could take weeks or more of feeling down, anxious, hopeless, pessimistic, worthless, guilty, empty and sickly.
These symptoms are actually very sickly. You lose energy, focus and enthusiasm. I don’t know what can be sicklier than that. The good news is that depression is curable. One can choose medication, therapy or both to get healed. If you suspect that you are depressed get help immediately. For parents, it is also important to check for the above mentioned symptoms from your kids and teens. Some depressed people become suicidal.
Causes of Depression
There are a number of causes that lead to
depression
. The following are a few of them:
Genetic. Some families are more likely to get depressed than others. This means you should be more careful if your relatives were ever diagnosed.
Stress. Well we live in an environment full of stress, especially around finances and relationships. Stress is both good and bad for us. Too much of bad stress can lead to a mental illness.
Trauma. A lot of dramatic changes in our lives can be very depressing. I was nearly depressed when I go married. It was a very uphill decision and when it became a reality I felt like I was losing my identity. Contrary to people’s expectations that I should be happy and celebrate. What kept me together was the deep love and trust I had in my then fiancé, now husband of almost six years.
Some traumatic experiences include death, divorce, etc. The hopelessness from trauma works on your emotions and brains.
Negativity. Some people are very negative about life and everything around them. These are people who are most likely to be depressed. They usually suffer from a low self esteem and lack of confidence. They are bothered by small useless issues. If you find yourself being negative, work on getting more optimistic about life. A professional can help you get out of that pessimistic mode. There are a lot of physical and emotional benefits of being optimistic.
Anxiety. Being an illness itself, anxiety can lead to one being depressed. You have to treat anxiety and generally eliminate the stressful parts of your life.
Other Conditions. There are a lot of physical and emotional conditions that affect our brain chemical balance. Having AIDS, cancer and other serious illnesses can weaken your physical body and have you prone to a lot of other conditions. Get enough nutrients and keep active.
