Do not Despise the Days of Humble Beginnings

Do not despise the days of humble beginnings: Start celebrating your achievements today and give thanks to Him for everything.

"God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning – the sixth day."
Genesis 1: 31

The scriptures tell us that in the earth was formless and empty, and darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. God started addressing the chaotic state in which the earth was. He said let there be light, and there was light. God saw that it was good. I like the fact that God saw that the light was good irrespective of the fact that the earth was still formless. Actually, after finishing each an every phase of the creation God was able to see that what he had accomplished was good. It was only after he looked at all that he had made that He realized that it was very good. God always appreciated his efforts. Every accomplishment was very important to him. He did not concentrate on what is not yet completed. Instead, He put everything in the right perspective. Not undermining his accomplishments, while also not overstating the problem ahead.

It is amazing that God was able to see the goodness of light despite the fact that the earth was still in a chaotic state. He knew what He wanted it to look like in the end, but this did not stop Him from celebrating his achievements. So I want to encourage you to celebrate your achievements. You may not be what you want to be or where you want to be, but don’t miss the importance of the strides you have made so far. The scripture says in Ecclesiastes 11: 8, “When people live to be very old, let them enjoy in everyday of life. But let them also remember that there will be many dark days. Everything still to come is meaningless.” In other words the scripture is saying that we should celebrate where we are now. Appreciate what God has given you so far. If you wait for certain things to be accomplished for you to be happy, you will live a life of chasing after joy. Joy is here now.

Start appreciating the things around you (e.g. diploma, degree, flat, house, job, husband, wife, siblings, mother, father, children etc). If you have completed your studies and not yet working, appreciate the fact that you did finish your studies and are employable. Multitudes are illiterate and unemployable. If you are working, don’t cry for that executive position. Instead appreciate that you have got access into the job market. Many are sending applications daily and are not yet working. In other words be content with what you have. Get your priorities right. Otherwise you will chase after that seemingly important executive position or whatever, and only realize after achieving that goal that in your pursuit for that achievement you gave up the most important things in your life.
