English Speaking Women in MaputoThere is a club of English speaking women in Maputo. I got their website link from the other website. It was so exciting to find this group’s website. I immediately emailed them. Off course I am interested to join. And today is my first appearance at the group. I am obviously nervous about meeting this bunch of women. What do I wear, how do I wear my hair, my makeup, my perfume. I just can’t afford to be overdressed or underdressed. I just want to fit. You actually can’t go wrong with a smart casual. So I went for my short wool dress with leggings. It’s casual but smart, I think. This is the second time that I drive my car in Maputo. The first time was at night. It was a disaster. The driving culture in Maputo and maybe in the whole of Mozambique is just ….different. Drivers have tendencies of parking in the road, narrowing the already tiny road that it is impossible for two cars to fit in a two way road. I struggled to pass a very short road and the rest of the local drivers were so impatient with me. So today I am determined to adopt some of the local driving skills. I have my directions to Indy Village (lovely hotel) where the ladies’ meeting is. Maputo is so small that even for me, getting lost is not likely. The first lady to arrive is also attending for the first time. And her hubby and mine work together. And we have a mutual friend. She is amazing, I like her already. She has been in Maputo for one and half years already and she tells me a lot about Mozambique. Just what I needed. The rest of the people arrived. What a nice bunch of girls. As expected, they are from various countries. Nice and interesting accents and different ages. So many activities that they organize: tours, crafts, golf and other exercises. I signed for Pilates and my class starts tomorrow. I’ll also be doing jewelry designing, brilliant.
From English Speaking Women in Maputo to journal homepage. This is my online journal. It is more like my public diary and a space where I share my daily life with you. I left my family and friends and moved to Maputo Mozambique with my husband and two kids. Please click here for the full Journal.
