Exercise Excuses
Exercise excuses can stand between us and our healthy bodies. Some people would say these are reasons that they CANNOT exercise. We all know that commitment goes beyond convenience. If you want something hard enough, you work hard enough to get it. Let’s look at some of those excuses.
1. No Time.
If exercise is important for you, you will make time. Think about all the things that take your time. I am sure that most of us have an idle 30 minutes in a day. How much TV time do you make? And yes, you can make time to exercise regularly too. All it takes is commitment and making time.
2. Baby Sitting.
Baby sitting can be very restricting and so involving. I know it as I have done it a lot. But babies sleep for hours in a day and one can have an aerobics time then. Technology has made it possible to get a personal trainer at a very low cost. Get an exercise DVD, a Swiss ball, a few dumbbells, etc. So baby sitting cannot be one of the exercise excuses anymore.
(please check our collection of exercise equipment in a seperate window).
A really nice one is having jogging with your baby in a baby stroller/ pram. There is just no excuse for not making an hour available for your health. Besides you need energy to look after a baby.
3. No Energy.
Low energy levels could be a symptom of lack of exercise. If you have lack of energy and tiredness as exercise excuses, think again. You need to be more active to be energetic.
4. No Money.
It is really nice to have a personal trainer to help you exercise correctly and regularly. When you cannot afford one, you just have to do it by yourself. One guarantee is that you will see the results if you are committed enough. The gym membership is also not necessary. All you need to exercise is yourself and maybe a good pair of training shoes. Nothing more. A brisk walk has numerous benefits for your heart. Try it, for FREE.
5. I don’t Like Exercise.
I can assure you, you are not alone. It’s only a few of us who are exercise addicts. I was also told that after a few weeks I’ll be so addicted I wouldn’t be able to live without exercise. It never happened to me and probably never will. But I sure would not be as alive and healthy without one. It is one of those things that our bodies need.
6. Family Quality Time.
I doubt if you can have quality time when you are stressed and tired. Symptoms that your body needs exercise will make you irritable and bad company. Some people will say, “My job is so demanding. All I need at the end of the day is a relaxing glass of good red wine and a good rest”. Why not try exercising in the morning? You can wake up an hour before your normal time and get to the gym for a good workout; you won’t believe how productive you will be.
7. Exercise is Boring.
Never stick to one exercise everyday because you will be bored. Another reason is that it is not good enough for your body. The day I got a professional to design my exercise program, I was interviewed. When I was asked what I do at the gym everyday I proudly responded. “I keep it simple. Its aerobics by means of a thread climber, treadmill, and stationary bike; then rower and I’m done. I don’t like complicating my life”. I think he could not believe his ears that I pay the gym membership just to use less that 5 percent of its potential.
Variety keeps exercise exciting and interesting. Try mixing your aerobic exercises with some strength exercise. It becomes even more important if you want to lose or gain weight. I always look forward to my strength training days. Something I never thought is nice to do.
8. No Results.
Some people join the gym this week and expect to see the results next week. Well, you will definitely see the results in a few months. Before then, you will have amazing energy levels and a clear mind. That should be enough. Exercise excuses like not seeing any weight loss are just that, excuses. You must be in it for health.
9. I am Sick.
I was told at home not to join school athletics groups as I had chest pain problems when I was a child. Exercise excuses like those can be so dangerous actually. My parents just didn’t know better. Exercise is a good way of improving your health. No medication beats healthy lifestyle habits.
10. No Support.
I know that we can all do with some external support but being your own support is even better. Learn to set goals for yourself and work hard to achieve them. If you design a reward system for yourself you will be glad you did. Being your own support makes you so much more in control of your life. Having a friend to exercise with is on the other hand a great support system.
Exercise excuses are even more common than other lifestyle excuses. CHange of attitude will go a long way.
