Health Checks
Health checks are amongst the most important aspects of your wellness. Family wellness management requires the highest level of being organised. It should get as much attention as a full time job or else...
There is something about writing things down that makes people commit to them. Make a commitment with yourself about your wellness and you’ll be able to better plan and act for a happier life. Draw your checklist to include the following:
Annual Plan.
As you would have an annual work plan in your job, draw an annual health plan for yourself and your family. This would include all the annual family wellness events. Think of the annual check-ups each of you needs to take
- mammogram scans for over 35,
- pap smear tests for over18,
- Prostate exam for over 50s,
- Blood pressure,
(more frequent when necessary.)
- Cholesterol
(more frequent when necessary.)
- Resting EKG,
- Annual comprehensive physical exam (every family member),
- Eye exams (for those who wear glasses and contact lenses),
- Thyroid function test(more frequent when necessary.),
- Foot exams (for sports people and diabetic)
Assign a date you wish to take these tests, next to each test.
Semester Plan.
Now list the more frequent tests. You would have to list your semester wellness needs like:
- dental examinations
- HIV test
Set timeframes and aim to stick to them.
Monthly Plan.
Medical needs that are taken care of on a daily basis are to be planned for. The following are examples of monthly self-examination needs:
- Breast self-exams (from teenage years at the same time every month),
- Testicular exams (especially from 14 years),
- Skin exams (look for moles in your skin).
Keeping a health checks calendar will help as your checklist reminder. Remember to attend to your fitness and nutrition needs daily. Stick to your routines like weekly grocery shopping to ensure food freshness and jogging three times a week, etc.
