Be an Involved Parent
Being interested in a child’s life makes him/her feel important. Be an involved parent and show your kids that you are interested in their lives, their daily activities, their friendships and relationships and their well-being. You may start by creating a conversation around their activities that do not involve you. This is essential for all children, from a baby to adult children who have their families.
Try to get to know more of the relationships your kids form and the individuals they associate with. This helps in predicting the problems they may encounter and preparing your kids for future peer pressure challenges.
Your teens are not to go out with friends you never met and talked to. Let them know your reasons for being a bit protective. It is your responsibility, and in your interest to be in the lives of your kids’ associates. This you do whilst giving your kids some space to be themselves.
Strive to let your children grow to know that you are there for them and they can tell you anything that bothers them. let them want you to be the first person to know about their milestones and challenges without you asking. Being an involved parent is the only way to offer protection and support to your kids. Be available and attentive.
