Menopause to Hormonal Imbalance Page
Menopause
Menopause is the time when women’s ovaries stop making the female hormones. This condition is preceded by premenopause, which is the period of up to 5 years before menopause. During premenopause estrogen production levels vary a lot from too high to too low. The irregular menstruations also disturb the progesterone hormone production. This results in a severe hormonal imbalance.
The Symptoms of Menopause
The symptoms of menopause caused by the hormonal imbalance range from:
- itching and dryness of the vagina,
- pain when urinating,
- loss of urine, pain during sex,
- hot flashes,
- sleeping problems,
- depression,
- memory loss,
- mood swings,
- irritability and
- sickly feeling.
There is a loss of calcium from the bones at this time, which can lead to osteoporosis. The low estrogen levels can lead to heart problems.
Natural Treatment
Estrogen:Women going through this condition can get estrogen treatment to combat the symptoms. I always prefer natural treatment to every condition. Estrogen is associated with breast cancer. If you are a breast cancer survivor or have a family history of breast cancer, you need to be very careful.
Healthy Diet:By natural treatment I mean food. So the healthy balanced diet with controlled calorie amounts. In some cases the symptoms are manageable and not severe enough to be treated in any way.
Vitamins: Vitamin E and avoiding spicy foods is recommended for hot flashes. It also makes sense taking some calcium, vitamin D, healthy diet and exercise to prevent osteoporosis.
Exercises:I can never emphasise the lifestyle change enough when it comes to any kind of hormonal imbalance. An extra effort is needed for a healthy lifestyle including relaxation exercises for depression. Exercise is also the best mood swing stabiliser ever. It gives more energy and combats the sickly feeling.
Walking: There is no exercise as enjoyable as walking in a neighbourhood, looking at nice houses, noticing the on sale boards and wondering where the neighbours are moving to, copying the landscape ideas, thinking about your day and even planning your next meals. Walking burns calories and builds bones whilst it’s refreshing and relaxing. You can do it alone, with your kids, spouse friend, pet or housemate. It is not strenuous to your bones. So, please take a well-deserved walk before or after each mood swing day.
Quit Smoking and Excessive Drinking : The bad habits like smoking and excessive drinking of alcohol can worsen the condition or worse lead to more complications.
Ask your doctor for possible tests to check your bones for instance and other high-risk conditions and sicknesses.
Sunlight: Your body can do with some natural vitamin D from the sunlight. Vitamin D supplement is especially vital to women in their 70s and older. Using excessive amounts of thyroid hormone are also reported to be very bad during menopause. Please discuss your dosage with your doctor.
Menopause Quotes
“I'm trying very hard to understand this generation. They have adjusted the timetable for childbearing so that menopause and teaching a sixteen-year-old how to drive a car will occur in the same week.” Erma Bombeck quotes (U.S. humorist, 1927-1996)
"Being over 40 can be the best time of a woman's life. But those hot flushes spoil the fun." Nombini Kutta-Mathye
