Shopping, Shopping, ShoppingThe three words I love the most, shopping, shopping, shopping. Pity we cant do as much of it as we wish. I also happen to have a debt phobia. I indulge in a number of ways like my monthly facial, a dose of reading, cosmetics and jewelry, handbags and shoes, etc. But at the moment between me and hubby, we only owe our mortgage. I burnt my fingers a little bit once. A story for another day. For today, imagine this: a move to a house with basic furnishings, no kettle, iron, cutlery, plates, glasses, pans, etc. That’s us. Our stuff is shipped to Mozambique but I guess still floating in the ocean. We can stay at the hotel for as long as we want but really we need to get settled. We have to make Maputo our real home. So we are off shopping for all these basics. Our "new" friends are lending us some of the stuff we need. We are crossing the border to do our shopping in South Africa, Mpumalanga. It’s an hour drive. Prices tend to be a bit high in Maputo but we are still figuring out if this is worth it. Crossing the border is one hell of a task. It’s more like negotiating a billion dollar deal. I feel its not necessary to have these borders at all actually. It would feel so harmonious just crossing and coming back. Well the governments know what they are doing better. I better stick to what I know here; shopping. In Mpumalanga South Africa, we only went to Malelane shopping mall. The closest mall to us but one of the smallest in the province. Come to think of it, Mpumalanga itself is not big on shopping. It is known for its Africa Safari experiences and related destination. This is where one finds the most popular Kruger Park. It deserves to be popular; I never saw so many big animals and birds in one place. Shopping was too much of a rush. Made me not look forward to some more of it. Next time we will go to Nelspruit. The biggest town in Mpumalanga. Then we can do serious shopping. The big issue is perishable goodies. Hence our house is made of freezers. Seriously we have two big freezers and a fridge. Now I know the value of a freezer. But I am enjoying this country. It has its negatives like food prices and lack of some stuff one is used to. But Maputo, Mozambique is where I want to be at the moment.
From shopping to journal homepage. This is my online journal. It is more like my public diary and a space where I share my daily life with you. I left my family and friends and moved to Maputo Mozambique with my husband and two kids. Please click here for the full Journal.
