Supportive Parenting

If you can’t be there when your child needs support, who will? Offering supportive parenting to your child is a requirement for every parent. Pay attention and know when your kids are happy and when they are sad. Always jump at an opportunity to rejoice with them and be the first to provide a shoulder when they need one. Your kids are never too old to need their parent’s emotional support.

You also need to provide materialistic support. Bear in mind that financial support will ever substitute the emotional support in your kids’ lives. If you are not there for your kids, getting them materialistic possessions wont make up for it. Kids need you not a playroom filled with toys or a brand new car of their own. Be available for your kids’ emotional needs and you’ll both never regret it.

Showing interest in your kids’ school and extra activities will go a long way to ensure their success. I still remember vividly my dad’s “after-school” home classes. These informal classes not only made me get the best grades, but fall in love with mathematics even close to 30 years later. However my dad would never know that I was being bullied by my older classmates.

Striking a balance is the only way of supportive parenting. Your child needs you emotionally, physically, financially and otherwise.
