Wellness: Living a Balanced Lifestyle

wellness wheel Wellness and happiness refers to a healthy balance of the mind, body and spirit. Being in this state is more than just being free from sicknesses, but having a feeling of complete wellbeing. To achieve true wellness you need to improve your quality of life on a daily basis. It’s when you strike the balance between taking care of your body, your mind and your spirit that you get to the state of complete wellness.

How Do We Achieve Wellness and Happiness?

Taking a decision to achieve complete wellness and keeping true to it means, you eliminate those actions that affect you negatively. That includes unhealthy habits, bad relationships, poor personal finance management, gossip, not making time for you, etc.

Take a closer look at your own wellness wheel and analyse its balance. Are the seven areas (physical, mental, spiritual, career, social, family, and financial) still intact? Are they in the right balance?

Keep your wellness wheel in good balance by paying attention to the suffering area. If your health is under a certain risk, give it more attention, likewise if it’s your spirituality, etc.

Take time to reassess your wellness wheel every month to see if you are still leading a well-balanced life. During your me-time, you may take your wheel and account to yourself on how you are living your life. Are you getting enough exercise; reading; prayer and meditation; social life; family time and personal finance plan. It all adds up to complete well ness and happiness.

Have a Plan

1. Your ME-Time: Start by having a clear “ME” wellness plan. Everything that you never give time to think of will all of a sudden be there in your plan.

2. Keep a Journal: Keep it in a personal journal that you keep with you all the time. My tip is that you get a small pocket book that fits in your handbag or pocket.

3. Current State: Look at your current wellness balance. are you happy with the state of your wellness?

4. Commit to Change: Check on the imbalances and have a plan of when and how you’ll improve on them. You may be needing to make more time for your parents, kids, career, business, health, finances, etc.

5. Stick to it: Stick to your decision as much as you can. Then visit your journal at least once in a while. Add more wellness goals as the need arises.

If you stop paying any attention to any of the wellness areas in your life, your wellness wheel will be broken and it will reflect in your life. Keep the balance and achieve inner peace and happiness.
