Women's Health

There should be a lot more value put in women's health these days because of the increase in a woman's work load. Its women in the office, in the playground, in the garden and everywhere else. The weather changes, ageing and financial pressures are not making women's situation easier either.

To look and feel your best, whilst taking care of kids and even our extended family, one needs to set her priorities straight. Many times women put themselves last in the line of attention and stress-free living. “we live for our children”; “I want my children to get all the opportunities I never got”; etc. This gets worse if one neglects her health. The following are a few steps that each woman has to take to ensure longevity and great health.

  • Monitor your general health. This is done in a form of a full checkup by your doctor. Some of the important measurements include weight, height and blood pressure.
  • Have a thyroid test. You don’t have to have a history of thyroid in your family to have your thyroid gland checked. From the age of 35 and every 5 years there after, all women should do a thyroid checkup.
  • Keep track of your blood pressure and cholesterol levels as often as you can. Don’t stay away from these tests for more than two years. Add blood glucose to these tests from the age of 45 and you will never be caught by surprise.
  • A bone mineral density test should be compulsory from the age of 60. We lose bone mass with age and need some supplements in the form of vitamins and minerals. We also need to stay active to slow the process of aging.
  • Women from their teen years should get into the habit of doing the breast examinations. A mammogram every year or two from the age of 40 can save your life. Please read more about breast cancer.
  • Pap smear and sexually transmitted diseases tests should be done immediately a girl becomes sexually active. It may be uncomfortable or scary, but you are your responsibility. Take care of that body.
  • Examine your skin of moles and discoloration. Some moles can be cancerous. Please stay away from natural sun tanning.
  • A dental treatment biannually is also a great idea. Have your whole family sticking to a healthy dental routine.
  • Eye and hearing examinations are also a good idea. Get the diagnosis before you face the problems.
Our secret to keeping it all together is our health being our priority. Women need all the strength to go through every single day.
