Your Hair and You

Our heads tend to define our feelings, and our feelings tend to define who we are. Now I feel safe to say our hair defines who we are. Hence we attribute the whole day to our hair, “bad hair day”.

There are people, especially women who change their hairstyles so often it’s difficult to recognise them. I’m sure everyone finds it a bit difficult choosing and changing a hairstyle. Anxiety of how you’ll ultimately look. Unless off course you are going back to a previously worn hairstyle.

You need a reliable and skilled hairstylist to trust with your new hairstyle. Someone who is both experienced and confident enough to tell you “Jlo won’t suit your round shape girl”.

Here is our helpful hints to help with your next choice of hairstyle :

  1. Shape of Your Face
  2. The common shapes of faces are oval, round, triangular, square, heart shaped and oblong. You must wear your hair to complement your face shape.

For round faces, soft feathered layers soften your features. Side swept fringes and wispy ends go well with this shape. The square shaped faces don’t really go well with one-length bobs and centre partings. This may make your faced very boxed, etc.

  3. Your Lifestyle
  4. As a rule of thumb, your hairstyle should match your dress sense. You most definitely have to consider what you wear daily before you grab those scissors. At the same time, it must be a flexible hairstyle for those of us with different morning and evening lifestyles or mid week and weekend lifestyles. Try something you can chop and change when party time knocks.

For those busy women who are probably working moms, low maintenance is the way to go. The mornings can be too short with a long hair routine. So you may consider an easier to maintain hairstyle.

  5. Hair for Men
  6. Men will never go wrong with a clean cut style, even a bald hair. You may however go shaggy but remember to match your daily activities.

Cornrows also look neat when taken care of. Clean and well-maintained.

  7. Braids
  8. There are countless options for wearing braids. Braids are always stylish and very low maintenance. You can wear them long or short and beautiful and fabulous all the time.

Braids need to be kept neat at all times. You may need a professional to wash your cornrows and braids so that they don’t come out. You also need to intensify on your hair treatment routine in between the braiding sessions as they tend to make hair delicate when neglected leading to easy breakage.

  9. Dread Locks
  10. Dreadlocks made it at last from being a taboo in our society straight to boardrooms. Thanks to the increased levels of tolerance towards each other’s choices and cultures. This hairstyle is surprisingly high maintenance, contrary to popular belief.

Only a professional hairstylist specialising in this style will do a great job. Invest a small amount of money to get it right. It’s very easy for dreadlocks to look dirty and unsophisticated. You need to keep your hair extremely neat. Like braids, you can wear them in different ways including plaited when they are long enough.

  11. Hair Colour

If you are not choosing to keep your natural colour, dye your hair as often as your hairstylist orders so that it doesn’t look lifeless. Nothing ruins a perfect look as lifeless looking hair with no direction. By the way hair dying doesn’t need professionals; however you need some skill or a skilled buddy to help you out with the task.

Some people go for the hair colour that compliments their eye colour; the colour that compliments their skin colour or the color that is closer to their natural hair colour.

Taking a look at pictures in magazines helps you to take a more informed decision. But remember that a model in the magazine must possess most of your features like the shape of your face, skin tone or eye colour and the combination of these. Otherwise you may look too uncoordinated.
